Countries of Asia-Pacific region has the highest number of Buddhist followers, with 481.3 million Buddhists living in this region. The remaining 6 million Buddhists live in different parts of the world, of which 3.8 million live in North America. A 2010 study showed that nearly 50.1% of world Buddhists live in China, making it the country with the world's largest Buddhist population, representing 244.2 million Buddhists of total population in China. Although India is the origin of Buddhism, there are 9.2 million Buddhists in the country, with only 0.8% of total population in India.
