Learning vocabulary in short amount of time is one of the hardest challenges learners face in foreign language learners. To overcome this issue, teachers and instructors try to teach their learners how to tackle it. The study is based on metacognitive and eye-tracker research, in which 16 university students were investigated. The participants were asked to take vocabulary pre-tests and tested again after using metacognitive strategy. The data of the study shows that there are notable differences between tests, ensure a better retention of the learnt vocabulary and lead to more efficient learner autonomy. As many learners do not develop sufficient mastery of the vocabulary learning strategies and giving strategy awareness can facilitate them to store and retrieve new vocabulary items, unfortunately, there is little research has been done on the vocabulary learning strategies in the country.
