In modern sports, there is a growing trend of training athletes from a very young age. School age is considered the most favorable period for mastering new motor skills, as it lays the foundation for technical skills across various exercises. Engaging in sports not only improves children’s health and physical immunity but also enhances physiological development and positively influences academic performance. As the performance level of Mongolian volleyball players continues to improve, there is an increasing need to train athletes with excellent technical skills capable of achieving high results in international competitions. This study aimed to assess the volleyball technical skills of young athletes across three age groups. We tested new motor skill assessments, evaluating their reliability, difficulty, and discriminatory ability, and validated their use in the study. Results revealed that middle-aged athletes performed 36% worse than younger athletes in tests evaluating overhand passing and the ability to hit the ball towards the ground during attacks. The analysis of ball possession during attacks, both younger and older athletes successfully executed the skill an average of 149 repetitions, showing no significant differences. The study identified the habits of training as a contributing factor, highlighting that time is essential for developing technical abilities alongside physical development and preparation. Additionally, many athletes in volleyball clubs were found to engage in the sport primarily for health and recreational purposes rather than pursuing a professional athletic career, which may impact their acquisition of technical skills. Keywords: Volleyball Passing, Attacking Ball Possession in Volleyball, Volleyball Serving, Task Differentiation Ability.

"Reform of physical education curriculum in universities and institutes: physical development of students and liberal arts education approach", БИЕИЙН ТАМИРЫН БОЛОВСРОЛ, СПОРТЫН ХӨГЖИЛ, Монгол улс, 2025-10-23, vol. VI, pp. 26-31

Abstract The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a curriculum that improves the overall physical development and movement skills of students of universities and institutes, as well as to introduce a reform that is consistent with the principles of a liberal arts education that allows the opportunity to select from a wide range of sports. The study involved 650 students of National University of Mongolia, and impleted a 64-hour curriculum over a 4-month period. As a result, the leg strength of male students increased by an average of 10.3 cm and leg strength of female students increased by 12.5 cm, and indicators such as abdominal strength, arm strength, flexibility and movement skills improved statistically significantly (p<0.01). Female students also lost an average of 1.1 kg in body weight and 2.3 cm in waist circumference, indicating positive changes in body shape of students. Compared with the experience of foreign universities (Stanford, Cambridge, Tokyo, Seoul National University, Peking University), the reform program of the National University of Mongolia was consistent with the trend towards multi-sport options, club culture, quality of life, and psychological balance. This study demonstrates that even a short-term training program is effective in the physical development of students, and shows the opportunity to develop a liberal arts reform in the Mongolia with a multi-sport option.

This study examines the impact of physical education, particularly team sports, on students’ collaboration skills at the National University of Mongolia. In modern higher education, developing soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and emotional self-regulation has become essential. A total of 750 undergraduate students participated in a structured survey. The questionnaire included 30 items across 7 dimensions, based on internationally recognized tools. Data were analyzed using SPSS software; the instrument showed high reliability (α = 0.84) and strong expert validation. Results indicated that teamwork skills were rated highest (M = 3.45), while leadership skills were lower (M = 2.99). Significant positive correlations were found between teamwork and both decision-making (r = 0.689) and leadership (r = 0.601), all statistically significant (p < 0.01). The findings confirm that team-based sports positively influence students' social and emotional development. It is recommended that physical education curricula integrate methods such as rotating leadership roles, structured team discussions, and stress management techniques to better foster collaboration and leadership in higher education settings.

The purpose of this study was to determine the general physical development and level of preparation of university students and to evaluate the effectiveness of a 64-hour physical training program for a period of 4 months. The study involved 650 students from the National University of Mongolia, and their general physical development indicators were determined by a movement test. The results before and after the training program were compared and analyzed accordingly. The results of the study showed that male students lost an average of 0.23 kg in body weight, 0.57 cm in chest circumference, and 0.11 cm in waist circumference, which is an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in fat tissue. Female students lost an average of 1.1 kg in body weight, 1.1 cm in chest circumference, and 2.3 cm in waist circumference, which is a result of increased metabolism and improved body shape. The highest improvement in movement skill was in leg strength. The leg strength of male students increased by 10.3 cm and female students’ by 12.5 cm, which shows that the training program was implemented effectively. Abdominal strength of male students increased by 2.5 times and of female students by 3.2 times, which were important improvements. The hand stretching index increased by 1.2 times for male students and 1.5 times for female students, which shows the effectiveness of the training program. The flexibility index increased by 1 cm for male students and 2.24 cm for female students, but the standard deviation was higher than the other indicators, indicating that there are high differences due to individual body structure and joint mobility. The effectiveness of a curriculum aimed at improving the general physical development and movement skills of university students has been confirmed by this study, and it is necessary to include a special program in the content and methodology of the curriculum in order to increase flexibility. It is also concluded that a long-term study with a larger number of respondents is necessary to further confirm the results of the study.

From 2020, the pandemic is spread around the world and everyone is locked down. It has been special years for everyone to isolate from society, protect from infection, support immune system, change eating habits and lifestyle and promote public health. Research methodology and its structure: The research study is involved 165 physically active students in grades 1-5 at the National University of Mongolia and aimed to compare the impacts of quarantine on their lifestyle, habits and diet. As a result of the study, in the pandemic outbreak, the main way to maintain and support personal immune system is to get enough sleep, eat a proper, nutritious and balanced diet that is important for the prevention and treatment of viral infections (Jayawardena R, Sooriyaarachchi P, Chourdakis M, Jeewandara C, Ranasinghe P., 2020). Materials and methods: In order to collect data, an online cross-sectional study is conducted of 165 students (62.4% female and 37.6% male students aged 18.62 ± 3.14 years) on demographic characteristics, anthropometric data, lifestyle factors, and eating habits. Results: Responding to the impact of the pandemic, 56.4% had gained weight; therefore, it is directly affected 78% on learning patterns, 56% on sleep patterns and 46% on eating patterns, respectively. In addition, 69.7% of them said that locked down situation is given negative effect on online working and studying; 85% answered they are screen addicted and 67% have sleep deprivation. More than half of the respondents increased the number of meals per day and the percentage of snacks is enlarged (16%). The quarantine also showed that students' gained weight is largely due to their level of education, nutritional status, frequency of exercise, and consumption of sweets between meals. Conclusion: Locked down periods have had two effects (positive and negative) on great lifestyle changes. Because people have to spent more time at home. A larger-scale study survey is needed to determine the impact of the epidemic on changes in people's lives, lifestyles and behaviors.
